“All the world's a stage…” Discover the world of the most popular English language playwright of all time, William Shakespeare. Learn poems, recite monologues and harness the lyrical language and dramatic brilliance that has kept Shakespeare’s audiences entranced and entertained for nearly four centuries. Work on both original and modern adaptations of Shakespeare’s plays written especially for young people. Present a selection of short Shakespearian works for family and friends at the end of the course.

Course components

  • Text Analysis: Interpret and bring to life a short written Shakespearian text for live performance.
  • Stage Craft: Consider the elements that contribute to the physical realization of a performance.
  • Performance: Rehearse and present a short live performance.

Prerequisites

Student who attend this course should be confident English language readers to at least a grade 3 level. Script analysis and sight reading are integral components of this course.

  • Flights and Accommodation: From time to time we may need to cancel an advertised course. Before booking flights and accommodation for travel to attend a NIDA Open course, please contact the NIDA Open office to confirm if your course will proceed as planned. NIDA does not accept liability for any associated costs of attendance or cancellation.
  • Please wear comfortable clothing you can move in for all drama and performance related courses. Clothing that restricts movement is inappropriate.
  • Please wear closed-in shoes. Shoes may be removed in the rehearsal room on the direction of the class tutor.
  • Participants must provide their own lunch, including snacks and drinks.
  • Children attending primary school grade equivalent holiday courses must be signed in and out by a parent or guardian.
  • NIDA staff will supervise students in courses for Grades 3–6 and Grades 7–10 in their breaks. These students will not be permitted to leave the advertised venue without parental permission.
  • If you are running late to collect your child, please call NIDA reception on 02 9697 7600. NIDA will only provide supervision during advertised course times.
