Level: Core Techniques

Suzuki Actor Training is a rigorous and highly physical method of actor training developed by theatre director Tadashi Suzuki. This 2 day course introduces students to its fundamentals, highlighting its benefits for breath control, presence and imagination in the actor.

Course components

  • Learn and practise some of the fundamental physical and vocal exercises of the Suzuki Method of Actor Training
  • Practise the application of the technique with text.
  • View examples of the principles of the method applied to performance.

Outcomes

  • Develop the actor’s control of breath, energy and stillness
  • Deepen the actor’s connection between the body, voice and the imagination.
  • Understand how this method could be applied to contemporary performance.

  • Please wear comfortable clothing you can move in for all drama and performance related courses. Clothing that restricts movement is inappropriate.
  • Please wear closed-in shoes. Shoes may be removed in the rehearsal room on the direction of the class tutor.
  • Please bring along a pen, notebook or electronic device and a bottle of water to all classes.
