The NIDA Games: Filmmaking @ Cockatoo Island, Grades 11-12

Holiday course

What would you do to survive? Go on the ultimate on-screen character adventure in the NIDA Games. Using popular post-apocalyptic fiction such as The Giver, Divergent and The Hunger Games as your inspiration, work with a group of young NIDA artists and a mentor filmmaker to develop original characters and scene work into a short film concept. Perform in and receive a copy of your film.

Course components

• Acting Technique – Explore characterisation and build technical skills through improvisation and the application of NIDA acting technique to an on-screen performance.
• Collaboration – Engage in a group creative process to develop an original short film, assume variety of roles in a creative and production capacity.
• Film Making – Develop, rehearse and shoot a short film.
• Production Planning – Introduction to the challenges of shooting ‘on-location’. Learn about consistency of performance, location scouting and working within the limitations of the environment.

Before booking flights and accommodation for travel to attend a NIDA Open course, please contact the NIDA Open office to confirm if your course will proceed as planned. • Please ensure that you have given a valid email and mobile number as any course changes will be communicated via email or sms.
• Please wear comfortable clothing you can move in for all drama and performance related courses. Clothing that restricts movement is inappropriate.
• Please wear closed-in shoes. Shoes may be removed in the rehearsal room on the direction of the class tutor.
• Participants must provide their own lunch, including snacks and drinks.
• Students in courses for Grades 11–12 will not be supervised during breaks and are free to leave the venue at designated break times should they wish.
