Advanced Actors Residency

For adults 18+ years

Commencing Monday 6 January 2020

For those who have completed a NIDA Residency, or have relevant experience in actor training, this is a great next step. Explore and utilise advanced acting techniques, shoot under professional filming conditions and perform in an ensemble theatre project.

A maximum of 12 students will be accepted per class.

NIDA’s Residencies are designed for people with commitment and curiosity to undergo intensive artistic development over an extended period of time. Applications are accepted internationally as well as nationally to create a vibrant cultural hub.

Course components

Week one: Monday 6 January – Friday 10 January, 10:30am–5:30pm

Undertake advanced acting training with workshops exploring Meisner, Suzuki , the Viewpoints and voice and accent work. Apply these techniques to a variety of texts in a creative workshop environment.

Week two: Monday 13 January – Friday 17 January, 10:30am–5:30pm

Collaborate with an experienced film and television director and director of photography on a studio set or location. Shoot two contrasting scenes and receive a copy of one edited scene from the week’s shoot.

  • Deepen individual performance practice and personal skill set
  • Ability to apply a range of advanced performance techniques to a variety of texts
  • Development of collaborative relationships with a creative ensemble
  • Optimum ability to embrace the technical demands of both live and recorded performance
  • Develop a rigorous and personal approach to a rehearsal process

Fees

An application fee of 10% of the total course cost is due on application. If you are not accepted into the course, this application fee will be fully refunded. If you are accepted the remaining 90% of the course fee will need to be made to secure your place in the course. Please note the fee covers the course fee only, accommodation and other costs are not included.

Application fee: $148
Early bird fee: $1,332 (includes $148 application fee)
Full fee: $1,480 (includes $148 application fee)

Early bird expires 9 December 2019. The full course fee payment must be made before 9 December for the early bird to apply. Applications must be received before 1 December to be reviewed in time for you to secure the early bird rate.

  • Flights and Accommodation: From time to time we may need to cancel an advertised course. Before booking flights and accommodation for travel to attend a NIDA Open course, please contact the NIDA Open office to confirm if your course will proceed as planned. NIDA does not accept liability for any associated costs of attendance or cancellation.
  • Please wear unrestrictive and comfortable clothing for all performance related course.
  • Please wear closed in shoes. Shoes may be removed in the rehearsal room on the direction of the class tutor.
  • It is compulsory to wear closed-toe footwear in our Design and Technical courses, and any classes which take place in the Reg Grundy Studio.
  • Please bring along a pen, notebook and bottle of water to all classes.
