Directors Studio: Live Performance - Interview

For adults 18 years + (Intermediate)

This course is designed as a two-term program that develops skills for both
Live Performance (term 1) and Screen/Digital media (term 2).

Overview

Consider the director’s role and examine the specific directorial demands for stage
and screen. Explore the principles of effective storytelling for both media and
collaborate with actors to pursue your creative vision and create dynamic performances.
Learn how to lead a creative team, motivate a cast and inspire audiences.

Course components

Term one

Gain insight into the actor’s process and explore ways to realise text and concepts in performance for the stage. Critically analyse the work of other directors and develop an understanding of the language and technical challenges of live performance.

Term two

Explore the visual, dramatic and technical challenges that directors face when applying their skill to storytelling for the screen. Consider script requirements, shot composition, visual detailing, lighting and sound techniques, continuity and the actor’s journey.

Fees

The course fee for is $2675 payable in 2 installments. or $2407.50 (10% discount) for payment upfront.

A separate, non-refundable interview fee of $25 will be charged.

Interview information

Entry to the Directors Studio courses is selective, by interview only.

Interviews for 2020 mid-year intake in July will occur online via a group Zoom session. Once enrolled in the interview you will be sent information about how to prepare.

Prior to the interview you will receive the link to join the class on the day. This is a group interview session, you will have an opportunity on the day to collaborate with others.

If you have questions about your online interview ahead of the day, you can speak with a member of the Program Management team.

Please note the course itself will still be delivered face to face in our Sydney studios.
