Musical Theatre Studio - Audition

Discover. Create. Transform.


Develop a secure approach to acting, performing choreographed routines and working with challenging vocal scores. Investigate a variety of musical theatre genres and gain confidence with audition techniques.

Collaborate with a director, choreographer and musical director to rehearse solos, duets and ensemble numbers. Perform a showcase presentation to an invited audience at the conclusion of the course.

Course components

Term one

Techniques and Tools: build a technical foundation in vocal and dance technique; develop your range and flexibility. Explore and apply contemporary acting techniques in relation to the demands of musical theatre.

Storytelling and Performance: create engaging characters and communicate a visual narrative. Learn to synthesise your skills within an ensemble.

Term two

Genre and Style: employ a variety of singing and dancing techniques to interpret contemporary and classical West End and Broadway repertoire.

Rehearsal and Performance: create dynamic and truthful performances through the application of singing and acting techniques. Meet the demands of challenging choreography in a theatrical context and present to an invited audience.

  • Execute a variety of dance styles
  • Perform material in a range of musical theatre song styles
  • Deliver audition material with confidence
  • Identify professional opportunities and how to position yourself according to industry needs.

The course fee is $2,800 payable in four instalments.
A separate audition fee of $35 will be charged.

  • Please bring a CV outlining your interests and any past experience or training.
  • Please bring a passport style photo of yourself – this will be used for identification purposes only when the panel are making their decisions.

Audition information

Entry to the Musical Theatre Studio is by written application and selective audition only. You must a complete a written application which will be assessed by NIDA Open staff. Successful applicants will then be invited to audition.

Information about the written application and audition requirements will be sent via a downloadable link within 2 working days of enrolment.
