Singing and Acting Studio - Audition

This course is designed as a two-term program to help you develop a secure approach to acting while working on challenging musical repertoire.

Enhance technical vocal skills, explore a variety of musical theatre genre and gain confidence in storytelling through song.

Collaborate with a director and musical director to rehearse solos, duets and ensemble material and ensure you are audition-ready.

Course components

Term one

Instrument Work: Develop your vocal range and physical presence through training specifically tailored for the medium of acting though song. Explore how physical action and the use of appropriate vocal technique informs character objectives in solo performance contexts.

Storytelling and Performance: Create engaging characters and communicate a visual narrative. Learn to synthesise your skills within an ensemble.

Term two

Genre and Style: Explore the application of acting techniques to both contemporary and classical repertoire.

Rehearsal and Performance: Create dynamic and truthful performances through the application of singing and acting techniques. Meet the demands of challenging storytelling in a theatrical context and present it to an invited audience.

Saturdays, 11am–5pm

The course fee is $2,850. This is payable in two instalments across the course or upfront with a 10% discount ($2,565).

A separate audition fee of $36 will be charged.

Before booking flights and accommodation for travel to attend a NIDA Open course, please contact the NIDA Open office to confirm if your course will proceed as planned.   • Detailed audition preparation information will be sent via downloadable link within 2 working days of enrolment.
  • Please bring a CV outlining your interests and any past experience or training.
  • Please bring a passport style photo of yourself – this will be used for identification purposes only when the panel are making their decisions.

Audition information

Entry to this Studio is by written application and selective audition only. You must a complete a written application which will be assessed by NIDA Open staff. Successful applicants will then be invited to audition.

Information about the written application and audition requirements will be sent via a downloadable link within 2 working days of enrolment.
