Term one Improvisation and Performance Craft
Term two Voice and Movement
Term three Devising and Contemporary Performance
Term four Script Work and Staging

Term 1, 2019: Things We Think to Sing

Let your voice soar and your imagination fly as you learn to stay in the moment finding the magic of now! Inspired by Seussical The Musical, use contemporary improvisation techniques to create your own wacky world of loveable characters. Enhance your listening skills and grow in confidence while you create and develop short acting and musical presentation scenes steeped in imaginative wonder.

Course components

  • Freeing the Imagination: Participate in improvisation exercises that promote spontaneity, creative expression and self-confidence.
  • Voice and Song: Learn how the voice works, develop confidence with singing technique and performance.
  • Performance Craft: Participate in improvised scene work and singing exercises to develop basic acting and improvisation technique.

Term 2, 2019: Make Your Move

Move your love of performance to the next level! Work with a NIDA movement tutor to develop the physical confidence required to be a musical theatre performer. No dance training required! This is for young singers and actors looking to find confidence moving to the music. Shine like a star as you showcase a short movement and singing presentation for family and friends at the end of the course.

Course components

  • Physical awareness: Develop basic dance skills through physical technique, exercises and movement training.
  • Voice and Song: Apply singing technique to develop confidence in front of a live audience.
  • Performance skill: Experiment with specific voice and physical choices to develop character, vocal quality and performance.

Term 3, 2019: A Thoroughly Modern Musical

Storytelling through song! Develop your skills in singing and acting as you begin to explore techniques for telling stories through song. Devise scenes inspired by contemporary songs to create your own mini modern musical.

Course components

  • Ensemble: Work as part of a team to develop a shared creative vision.
  • Text Interpretation: Bring to life a short written musical text for live performance.
  • Storytelling: Explore stories, character journeys and creative problem solving through group and individual improvisation.

Term 4, 2019: Musicalicious and Delicious

Get your Golden Ticket to this dream factory of delectable delights! Focus on performance craft as you hone your skills and use reliable NIDA acting techniques to improve your singing, dancing and acting. Rehearse scenes and work on the music from your ultimate, favourite shows like Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, The Lion King and Wicked. Perform your favourite musical moment for family and friends at the end of the course.
