How do you create an imaginative world through set and costume design? Gain an overview as you explore creative and inspired design ideas through practical exercises. Pitch your final theatrical design project to an audience and gain valuable feedback from an industry expert.

Course components

  • Ascertain the role of designer and the principles of design for theatre.
  • Collaborate with an industry expert as you learn the key skills required as a costume, lighting and set designer from the research phase through to design delivery.
  • Work on a design project in an area of specialisation and present your final concept for feedback.


  • Experience in costume, lighting and set design for the theatre gained through practical exercises.
  • Ability to collaborate with others, work independently and apply feedback to achieve the requirements of your final design task.
  • Presentation skills for pitching design concepts to an audience.

  • Please wear comfortable clothing you can move in for all drama and performance related courses. Clothing that restricts movement is inappropriate.
  • Please wear closed-in shoes. Shoes may be removed in the rehearsal room on the direction of the class tutor.
  • Please bring along a pen, notebook or electronic device and a bottle of water to all classes.
