Young Musical Theatre Residency, 15-18 Years

Holiday course

Commencing Monday 8 July 2019

Develop your performance skills in this intensive program for committed young artists as you collaborate with NIDA tutors to meet the demands of musical theatre performance. NIDA’s Residencies are designed for people with a commitment and curiosity to undergo intensive artistic development over an extended period of time. Applications are accepted internationally as well as nationally, to create a vibrant cultural hub.

Course Components

Week one: Monday 8 July to Friday 12 July, 10:00am–5:00pm

Work with industry experts to develop the three disciplines of acting, dancing and singing. Take inspiration from a range of musical theatre sources and materials.

Week two: Monday 15 July to Friday 19 July, 10:00am–5:00pm

Gain confidence with auditions, practise contemporary styles of song and dance and engage an audience with a studio performance at the end of the week.

Outcomes

  • Ability to employ improvisation as a tool for creating character
  • Ability to engage an audience by storytelling through song
  • Confidence in a variety of vocal and dance techniques
  • Confidence in applying a personal rehearsal process to audition material

Fees

An application fee of 10% of the total course cost is due on application. If you are not accepted into the course, this application fee will be fully refunded. If you are accepted the remaining 90% of the course fee will need to be made to secure your place in the course. Please note the fee covers the course fee only, accommodation and other costs are not included.

Early bird expires 10 June 2019. The full course fee payment must be made before 10 June for the early bird to apply. Applications must be received before 3 June to be reviewed in time for you to secure the early bird rate.

Important information

  • Please read our cancellation and transfer policy.
  • Please wear unrestrictive and comfortable clothing for all performance related course.
  • Please wear closed in shoes. Shoes may be removed in the rehearsal room on the direction of the class tutor.
  • It is compulsory to wear closed-toe footwear in any classes which take place in the Reg Grundy Studio or any of NIDA’s theatres.
  • Please bring along a pen, notebook and bottle of water to all classes.
  • Participants must provide their own lunch, including snacks and drinks.
  • Students in courses for 15-18 Years will not be supervised in breaks and are free to leave the venue at designated break times should they wish.

Application Information

Entry to NIDA Residencies is by selection. The deadline for completed Winter Residencies applications is the 1 July 2019. If you are successful you will receive a link to pay the remainder of the course fee. Group size will be restricted to ensure individual attention.
