American Accents Essentials

Overview

Mastering the American accent is an essential skill for every actor’s toolkit. In this two-day course, you’ll explore techniques crucial for speaking authentically and confidently in a Standard US accent. Under the guidance of an experienced NIDA teaching artist, focus on developing phonetic notation skills, enabling you to break down the phonetic elements of American accents with precision.

Whether you’re auditioning for roles, preparing for performances or aiming to expand your acting repertoire, this course will provide you with the tools to master one of the most sought-after accents in the industry. 

Components

  • Phonetics: learn the technical essentials of the Standard American accent. 
  • Apply technique to a variety of texts. 
  • Enhance vocal dexterity with the exploration of an additional American accent e.g. New York, Texan or Californian.
