Overview

This course is designed for creatives eager to broaden their skill set in preparation for collaborative work with actors. Ideal for aspiring screen directors this course offers a comprehensive exploration of the essential techniques needed to bring out the best in your actors and create compelling performances.  

Under the expert supervision of a NIDA Open teaching artist, you will explore a variety of methods for text analysis and interpretation. Learn how to dissect scripts, understand character motivations, and use these insights to elicit outstanding performances from your actors. Through hands-on activities and feedback, you will develop the ability to communicate effectively on set. Collaboration with NIDA actors is a key component of this course, providing you with practical experience in guiding performers through their creative processes.   

You will explore casting techniques, learning how to confidently select the best actors for your projects. Additionally, you’ll develop an understanding of the technical aspects of screen directing, learning how to address technical considerations to enhance the actor’s performances and your overall direction. This comprehensive experience will prepare you to direct with skill and confidence, ensuring a well-rounded approach to creating impactful screen performance. Components

• Examine a variety of directing techniques and styles in a practical workshop format.

This course is Intermediate level. Some experience is required.
