NIDA Acting Techniques 3

Overview

For students who have completed NIDA Acting Techniques 2 (or equivalent), this Advanced Technique delivery is designed for experienced actors seeking to deepen their understanding of performance craft and technique. Offered as a series of masterclass-style workshops, you will explore a selection of texts, allowing for an immersive and intensive learning experience. In undertaking advanced acting exercises, you will enhance your knowledge of dramatic storytelling and character development.

Under the guidance of a NIDA Open teaching artist, you will explore the work of at least two significant, contrasting playwrights. This exploration will provide valuable insights into different dramatic styles and approaches to performance, enriching your understanding of acting technique and character preparation for rehearsal. In addition you will begin to explore the actor/director relationship and build a common language when working in a rehearsal room setting.

NIDA Open courses are designed to reflect NIDA’s world-class creative training. Join likeminded peers in creative collaboration and be inspired by teaching artists who are leaders in their field.

Components

  • Preparation and class performance of a monologue and contemporary scenes.
  • Advanced exercises for acting technique and scene preparation.
  • Advanced scene rehearsal with a NIDA Open Teaching Artist.
  • Understanding of the actor/ director relationship in a rehearsal setting.

Prerequisites

This course is classified as Advanced Techniques. Previous training and experience is essential. Students should be familiar with the basic language of the Stanislavski system and be able to analyse text independently. You will need to have a prepared a monologue for session 1.

Please contact NIDA Open office [email protected] before enrolling.

The course exceeded all of my expectations. Getting to work with a group of actors in a very trusting environment. The scene work was also challenging and showed me how deeply you need to work to create an authentic scene.
