Self-Tape Essentials

Overview

Mastering the art of the self-tape is essential for actors. This interactive 2-day course focuses on practical steps for developing your self-taping technique and teaches you how to make a powerful impact with basic equipment. Learn how to interpret a casting brief, prepare your scene work and set up and shoot an audition tape worthy of current industry standards.  

Explore the importance of lighting, sound and background setup to ensure a professional-quality self-tape and gain insights into framing, camera angles, and the subtleties of performance that will make your audition stand out. Under the guidance of a NIDA Open teaching artist, you’ll develop the skills to present yourself with confidence within a supportive and creative learning environment.  

Components

  • Basic lighting and set-up techniques 
  • Develop your understanding of a casting brief 
  • Produce mock self-tape auditions and learn how to make dynamic choices 

Prerequisites

This course is Introduction level. No previous experience is required.
