Writing for the Stage

Overview

Immerse yourself in the art of theatrical writing under the guidance of a NIDA teaching artist. Explore how to build dynamic characters and develop authentic dialogue that drives your narrative forward. Learn to integrate elements of plot, character development and thematic content to create a strong foundation in writing for the stage. 

Through guided practice and professional feedback, discover how to identify and express your unique voice as a writer. By the end of the course, you will have the tools and confidence to produce original works that captivate and move audiences, showcasing your personal artistic vision.

  • Develop techniques for effective characterisation, structure, style and narrative. 
  • Discover methods for writing engaging dialogue for stage. 
  • Workshop your ideas for script development. 
  • Receive feedback from an industry practitioner. 

Prerequisites

This course is classified as Core Techniques. You will get the most out of it if you have some previous writing experience.

Having homework that pushed me to draft things and getting some practice sharing my work with other people in a supportive environment was really good.
