Laban: An Introduction

Overview

Transform your approach to acting and deepen your connection to character with this introduction to Laban Movement Analysis (LMA). Under the guidance of a NIDA teaching artist, begin the process of enquiry into Rudolph Laban’s artistic approach and learn how it can be applied to a variety of performance contexts.

Throughout the day you will engage in a series of dynamic exercises designed to expand your understanding of character. Working collaboratively within a supportive environment, you will integrate physicality with emotion and intention to experience the transformative journey of the ‘outside in’ approach to performance. This one-day course is suitable for creatives of all levels of experience and diverse backgrounds.

Components

  • Physical Expression – use the effort factors of Space, Weight, Flow and Time to realise physical truth of a character.
  • Character Development- Explore principles of dynamic alignment, breath, flexibility and impulse to work from the ‘outside in’ when creating character

Prerequisites
