NIDA Online: The Art of Costume Design

In this online short course, investigate the role of costume design in storytelling for stage and screen. Discover how to enhance story and captivate audiences as you gain invaluable insights into the blend of technical expertise and creativity that brings characters to life. Explore design concepts from initial sketches to art finishings. Engage in practical activities that reveal the demands and collaborative nature of this intricate process.
Led by specialist NIDA teaching artists who are currently working in industry, discover methods for interpreting and researching scripts. Gain insight into the materials needed for rendering, techniques for resolving designs, and how to communicate your vision in a supportive and inclusive community. Transform your vision into your own design concept and present it with confidence to your class.
Face to face via Zoom: 4 × 2.5 hour sessions
Self-directed learning: 1 hour writing/research activity between each session
