Stage Management Essentials

Overview

Explore the essential role of the Stage Manager in live performance in this introductory course. Develop an understanding of the creative, technical and managerial expertise required in stage management as you are introduced to methods of scheduling, rehearsal protocols, show calling and effective communication within a creative ensemble. Gain an understanding of the complex responsibilities of a Stage Manager and explore industry standard procedures for managing live performances. Through practical experience, you will engage in basic stage management tasks, ensuring you leave with tangible skills and confidence.  

Taught by experienced NIDA teaching artists in a supportive and collaborative environment, this course is the first step in mastering the complexities of this pivotal production role. 

Components

  • Identify the various essential tasks of the Stage Manager 
  • Learn the standard procedures and documentation required in stage management 
  • Participate in practical exercises e.g. marking up a stage, scheduling and calling a show. 

Prerequisites

Introduction level. No previous experience required.
