Crack Up: Comedy and Improvisation, Grades 4-6

Holiday course

Class clowns unite! Using improvisation, comic writing and presentation techniques, develop your own stand-up routine showcasing your unique creative genius and comic timing. A fun and comprehensive introduction to the lighter side of entertainment – without a dad joke in sight.

Course components

  • Creative Voice: Learn how to develop your personal stories and creative ideas into a short comedic presentation or ‘stand-up’ performance.
  • Performance Writing: Learn and apply comedy and speech writing techniques.
  • Presenting: Develop confidence presenting to a live audience.
  • Performance: Present a short, original stand-up comedy routine to family and friends.

Prerequisites

Students must be aged between 9 and 12 years of age and enrolled in school grades 4-6 on the date of course commencement. Please note, students will be required to complete some written tasks in the development of their comic routine. We recommend students aged 8 or those attending a comedy course for the first time enrol in Off the Cuff: Improvisation.

  • Flights and Accommodation: From time to time we may need to cancel an advertised course. Before booking flights and accommodation for travel to attend a NIDA Open course, please contact the NIDA Open office to confirm if your course will proceed as planned. NIDA does not accept liability for any associated costs of attendance or cancellation.
  • Please ensure that you have given a valid email and mobile number as any course changes will be communicated via email or sms.
  • Please wear comfortable clothing you can move in for all drama and performance related courses. Clothing that restricts movement is inappropriate.
  • Please wear closed-in shoes. Shoes may be removed in the rehearsal room on the direction of the class tutor.
  • Participants must provide their own lunch, including snacks and drinks.
  • Children attending primary school grade equivalent holiday courses must be signed in and out by a parent or guardian.
  • NIDA staff will supervise students in courses for Grades 3–6 and Grades 7–10 in their breaks. These students will not be permitted to leave the advertised venue without parental permission.
  • If you are running late to collect your child, please call NIDA reception on 02 9697 7600. NIDA will only provide supervision during advertised course times.
