Want to explore musical theatre performance but not sure where to start? Take your first step into the spotlight with this fun and practical, one day introduction to musical theatre. Discover techniques for storytelling through song as you learn voice, acting and character development skills to start you on the road to the wonderful world of musical theatre. Receive practical advice from your NIDA tutor on how to further your creative development in a friendly group forum for parents and students at the end of the day.

Course components

  • Voice and Song: Learn how the voice works; develop confidence with singing technique and performance.
  • Acting Technique: Practice fundamental acting skills in a musical theatre performance.
  • Industry Alignment: Attend a student/parent forum at the end of the course to explore NIDA Open training options.

Prerequisites

This is an introductory course for students exploring professional performance practice for the first time. Please speak to the NIDA Open enrolment team to discuss your learning requirements in detail if you are unsure whether this course is right for you.

Important information

  • Flights and Accommodation: From time to time we may need to cancel an advertised course. Before booking flights and accommodation for travel to attend a NIDA Open course, please contact the NIDA Open office to confirm if your course will proceed as planned. NIDA does not accept liability for any associated costs of attendance or cancellation.
  • Please ensure that you have given a valid email and mobile number as any course changes will be communicated via email or sms.
  • Please wear comfortable clothing you can move in for all drama and performance related courses. Clothing that restricts movement is inappropriate.
  • Please wear closed-in shoes. Shoes may be removed in the rehearsal room on the direction of the class tutor.
  • Participants must provide their own lunch, including snacks and drinks.
  • Children attending primary school grade equivalent holiday courses must be signed in and out by a parent or guardian.
  • NIDA staff will supervise students in courses for Grades 3–6 and Grades 7–10 in their breaks. These students will not be permitted to leave the advertised venue without parental permission.
  • If you are running late to collect your child, please call NIDA reception on 02 9697 7600. NIDA will only provide supervision during advertised course times.
