Live on Stage, Grades 7-10

Holiday course

Get the creative advantage in this week-long workshop in live performance for aspiring artists. Learn NIDA acting, vocal and movement technique and engage in intensive scene study from classic and contemporary stage plays under the direction of a NIDA acting tutor. Be introduced to national and international contemporary perspectives on theatre and live performance. Showcase your scene work to family and friends at the end of the course.

Course components

  • Acting Technique: Explore characterisation and build technical acting skills through improvisation and the application of NIDA acting technique.
  • Vocal Expression: Practice and apply vocal performance technique in a live presentation.
  • Physical Awareness: Practice and apply movement technique for the actor including alignment, presence and spatial relationships in a live presentation.
  • Text interpretation: Learn how to analyse and bring to life a short written text for live performance.
  • Performance Craft: Develop, rehearse and present a live performance showcase of selected scene work.

Prerequisite

  • We recommend students attending this course have completed Drama School Grades 7-10 or have similar experience at an equivalent organisation.

*This course requires a reading comprehension level of school grade 7 and above.

Important information

  • Flights and Accommodation: From time to time we may need to cancel an advertised course. Before booking flights and accommodation for travel to attend a NIDA Open course, please contact the NIDA Open office to confirm if your course will proceed as planned. NIDA does not accept liability for any associated costs of attendance or cancellation.
  • Please wear comfortable clothing you can move in for all drama and performance related courses. Clothing that restricts movement is inappropriate.
  • Please wear closed-in shoes. Shoes may be removed in the rehearsal room on the direction of the class tutor.
  • Participants must provide their own lunch, including snacks and drinks.
  • Children attending primary school grade equivalent holiday courses must be signed in and out by a parent or guardian.
  • NIDA staff will supervise students in courses for Grades 3–6 and Grades 7–10 in their breaks. These students will not be permitted to leave the advertised venue without parental permission.
  • If you are running late to collect your child, please call NIDA reception on 02 9697 7600. NIDA will only provide supervision during advertised course times.
