An access all areas look at short film making at your fingertips. NIDA Open has collaborated with the experts at Smart Fone Flick Fest to produce a practical exploration of smart phone film making. Learn about the process of writing, directing and shooting a short film for Smart Phone film festivals. Bring your own device and start creating. Your future film is in the palm of your hand!

Course information

  • Participants are required to provide their own electronic device for film making purposes.
  • Participants wishing to submit their film into a competition will be required to obtain signed actor release forms from participants appearing in their film.

Course components

  • Filmmaking: Discover the production processes required to make a short film
  • Process: Investigate the qualities of a quality short film and undertake practical exercises designed to develop your filmmaking skill set
  • Technical: Establish best practice whilst on set as you build knowledge of production roles

  • Flights and accommodation: From time to time we may need to cancel an advertised course. Before booking flights and accommodation for travel to attend a NIDA Open course, please contact the NIDA Open office to confirm if your course will proceed as planned. NIDA does not accept liability for any associated costs of attendance or cancellation.
  • Please ensure that you have given a valid email and mobile number as any course changes will be communicated via email or sms.
  • Please wear comfortable clothing you can move in for all drama and performance related courses. Clothing that restricts movement is inappropriate.
  • Please wear closed-in shoes. Shoes may be removed in the rehearsal room on the direction of the class tutor.
  • Participants must provide their own lunch, including snacks and drinks.
  • Children attending primary school grade equivalent holiday courses must be signed in and out by a parent or guardian.
  • NIDA staff will supervise students in courses for Grades 3–6 and Grades 7–10 in their breaks. These students will not be permitted to leave the advertised venue without parental permission.
  • If you are running late to collect your child, please call NIDA reception on 02 9697 7600. NIDA will only provide supervision during advertised course times.
