Actors Residency

For adults 18+ years

Commencing Monday 1 July 2019

Develop and utilise fundamental skills and techniques for performance as you collaborate with an ensemble and industry experts in a rigorous residency program.

NIDA’s Residencies are designed for people with a commitment and curiosity to undergo intensive artistic development over an extended period of time. Applications are accepted internationally as well as nationally, to create a vibrant cultural hub.

Customise your residency and train with us for two, three or four weeks, details outlined below:

Course components

Week one: Monday 1 July – Friday 5 July, 10:00am–5:00pm

Extend your vocal range and find physical freedom through the exploration of fundamental voice and movement technique. Work as an ensemble to develop creative spontaneity and explore improvisation and impulse work.

Week two: Monday 8 July – Friday 12 July, 10:00am–5:00pm

Work with a vocal coach and director to explore and apply appropriate vocal, physical and acting techniques to a variety of texts.

Optional week three: Monday 15 July – Friday 19 July, 10:00am–5:00pm

Explore visual storytelling and relationship to camera as you develop an understanding of acting for screen. Rehearse and film a scene.

Optional week four: Monday 22 July – Friday 26 July, 10:00am-5:00pm

Rehearse and perform in a collaborative theatrical project under the guidance of a professional director.

Fees

An application fee of 10% of the total course cost is due on application. If you are not accepted into the course, this application fee will be fully refunded. If you are accepted the remaining 90% of the course fee will need to be made to secure your place in the course. Please note the fee covers the course fee only, accommodation and other costs are not included.

Two Week Residency
Application fee: $123.50
Early bird fee: $1,111.50 (includes $123.50 application fee)
Full fee: $1,235 (includes $123.50 application fee)

Three Week Residency
Application fee: $181.50
Early bird fee: $1,633.50 (includes $181.50 application fee)
Full fee: $1,815 (includes $181.50 application fee)

Four Week Residency
Application fee: $236.50
Early bird fee: $2,128.50 (includes $236.50 application fee)
Full fee: $2,365 (includes $236.50 application fee)

Early bird expires 3 June 2019. The full course fee payment must be made before 3 June for the early bird to apply. Applications must be received before 27 May to be reviewed in time for you to secure the early bird rate.

Important information

  • Please read our cancellation and transfer policy.
  • Flights and Accommodation: From time to time we may need to cancel an advertised course. Before booking flights and accommodation for travel to attend a NIDA Open course, please contact the NIDA Open office to confirm if your course will proceed as planned. NIDA does not accept liability for any associated costs of attendance or cancellation.
  • Please wear unrestrictive and comfortable clothing for all performance related course.
  • Please wear closed in shoes. Shoes may be removed in the rehearsal room on the direction of the class tutor.
  • It is compulsory to wear closed-toe footwear in our Design and Technical courses, and any classes which take place in the Reg Grundy Studio.
  • Please bring along a pen, notebook and bottle of water to all classes.

Application Information

Entry to NIDA Residencies is by selection. The deadline for completed Winter Residencies applications is the 24 June 2019. If you are successful you will receive a link to pay the remainder of the course fee. Group size will be restricted to ensure individual attention.
