Screen Actors Studio - Audition

For adults 18 years + (Intermediate)

Create a strong foundation for performing effectively to camera by applying NIDA screen acting techniques to Australian and international scripts.


Develop your vocal, physical and imaginative dexterity as you develop self-assurance in relating to the camera, with the support and direction from core tutors.

At the conclusion of the course, you will receive advice regarding personal technique development, further study options and professional opportunities.

Course components

Term one

Instrument Work: Develop vocal and physical presence specifically for the screen. Extend vocal range and freedom, practice ways to move with ease and purpose when being directed.

Imagination & Relationship to Camera: Develop spontaneity in performance through impulse work. Apply vocal, physical and acting techniques to improvised and scripted scenes to camera.

Term two

Performance for Visual Storytelling: explore and apply appropriate acting techniques for screen under the direction of an industry professional.

Characterisation and Screen Presence: understand a character arc and employ a variety of acting techniques to develop a truthful and engaging performance. Explore ways to connect with audiences through the lens. Rehearse and shoot contemporary scenework.

Term three

Language and Action: learn and apply American and British accents. Use the character thought process to inform physical choices.

Emotional Expression and Screen Performance: achieve depth and range in a variety of genres including comedy, drama and soap opera. Make appropriate physical and vocal choices in your approach to contemporary international scenework.

Term four

Advanced Acting Exercises and Solo Work to Camera: be challenged by contemporary acting processes and learn how to embody technique in solo performance work.

Screen Tests and Castings: refine the skills required to approach both prepared scenes and cold reads. Respond to casting briefs and work toward meeting industry expectations.

The course fee for 2017 is $4450 payable in 4 instalments.
A separate, non-refundable audition fee of $35 will be charged.
