Creative Play

Creative Play provides an entertaining and supportive learning environment designed especially for growing artists, their families and early childhood educators.

What is Creative Play?

Creative Play actively engages pre-school children and their carers in storytelling and artistic practice through voice, movement and dramatic play-based activities.

Children, parents and/or educators are supported by our experienced tutors to:
• Develop self-confidence through dramatic and creative play
• Explore social contexts and group dynamics
• Develop voice and communication skills
• Discover the physical world and cultural landscapes
• Engage their personal creativity and artistry in a fun and supported environment

Learning framework for group classes at NIDA.

Pre-school aged students aged 2–5 participate in play-based dramatic exercises to engage the body, voice and imagination in creative, self-expression. We work with a different theme or focus on a specific area of creative skill development during each course.
Our holiday classes are individual 50–60 minute units of fun and learning that can be enjoyed as a single session. Parents and carers often enrol their children in a one-off holiday class as a first time introduction to NIDA Creative Play.
Our term courses are made up of eight consecutive classes, one class per week. Each week builds on the learning and experiences of the previous week to create an 8-week learning journey. Classes are tailored to the developmental and creative needs of individual children.

NIDA classes at your Early Childhood centre or School

NIDA offers a range of NIDA Creative Play learning experiences as both professional development for early childhood educators and as centre incursions for children. Most of the pubic class sessions we offer can be adapted for the classroom environment, or we can tailor a Creative Play learning experience specific to you and your growing artists.

Courses available

Creative Play courses are currently available in Sydney and Melbourne:
• Term classes for 2–3 years with parents or carers at NIDA

• Term classes for 4–5 years without parents at NIDA

• Group sessions for educators or children at your childcare centre or school
