NIDA Studio interview information

Studio interview information

Entry to the Studios is selective and entry is based on an audition or interview. We look for candidates who show the potential to become experts in their chosen field.

The Interview

Prepare a 5 minute presentation of your project/concept. Consider the content and style of your imagined project and what impact you think it will have on your intended audience.

We recommend a format known as ‘Pecha Kucha’ (although this is not compulsory). Pecha Kucha is a simple presentation format where you show 20 images, each for 20 seconds. The images advance automatically and you talk along to the images.

For further information see:

Think creatively about images, words and ideas to communicate the work you would like to make, and use this opportunity to introduce yourself and the things which inspire you.

You can bring your images on either a USB or hard copy format.

On the day

You will present your prepared project.

Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your interview and wait for your group to be called. Interviews are conducted in a group – everyone is in the room throughout the whole process. The interview lasts up to three hours and you are required to stay for the whole time.

Tips for the day

Remember:

  • Rehearse your interview presentation before your interview so that you feel prepared.
  • Be open and engaging with the other people in your group. We are looking for people who can work well together, as well as develop individually.
  • You may bring bottled water into NIDA’s rehearsal rooms; however, no other food or drink is permitted.

Outcome of your interview

Once you have auditioned we will contact you within two weeks to let you know the outcome. If we are able to offer you a place in the course and you wish to accept it, you will need to arrange payment for the course prior to course commencement.
