Level: Applied Techniques
For adults 18 years +
For students who have completed Screen Acting Techniques (or equivalent). Extend your screen acting skills in contrasting scenes from film and TV. Learn techniques to bring your scene analysis to life in specific and truthful on-screen performances. Develop your confidence working within the technical elements of screen acting and be introduced to industry requirements such as screen tests and castings.
Students should be familiar with the basic language of the Stanislavski acting system and scene analysis.
Course components
- Physical and vocal techniques for creating on-screen character.
- Screen tests and castings.
- Advanced scene analysis.
Outcomes
- Ability to create dynamic and clear on screen performances.
- Confidence working with the technical elements of on-screen performance.
- Knowledge of on-set etiquette and professional practise.

Other Information
NIDA Melbourne is located at the Guild, 152 Sturt Street Southbank, in the Arts precinct. From Sturt Street, we are next to the SES building. There is a large distinctive red flower sculpture on the façade of the apartment building. Our studios are on your left, halfway along the walkway.
ON A TRAIN
Any train to Flinders Street, then a 12-minute stroll through Melbourne’s Arts Precinct, or take a tram following the directions below.
ON A TRAM
The No. 1 South Melbourne tram goes right past our door. Get off at Stop 18.
Any tram down St Kilda Road—jump off at Grant Street, Stop 17 and take a 3-minute walk.
DRIVING
There is limited, timed street parking along Sturt Street and surrounding streets.
The Arts Centre Melbourne car park is located at 4 Sturt Street.
The Australian Ballet Centre car park is located at 2 Kavanagh Street.
Both the Arts Centre and Australian Ballet Centre are timed, paid parking stations.
